Horse & Cart was conceived in a bedroom. Whoa, that sounds like it’s a baby. But it’s not, its a band. Horse & Cart is comprised of Tom (drums) and Rory (guitar).
When they first started playing Tom and Rory had no idea what they wanted to sound like, but they knew that they got a rush from playing loud climatic songs. Horse & Cart have now however, decided to start branching away from that original formula. Musically, the belief is that instrumental music has the potenial to be very expressive and they try, as best they can, to convey something in the song.
Their influences include lot of instrumental music; Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, Eluvium, Battles, don Caballero; and also Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, Miracle Fortress, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Catherine Wheel, Starflyer 59, etc.
Horse & Cart have just recorded their debut EP, which is due for release in May. In a recording situation, the duo were given the opportunity to incorporate other sounds and instruments. So while it is not essentially the raw Horse & Cart experience, it does capture the fundamentals of all their songs in a new and captivating way.
